“There was so much enthusiasm for Governor DeSantis’ vision for our Great American Comeback that he literally busted up the internet. Washington is next!” Griffin tweeted. “$1 million raised online in one hour… and counting!”

The Washington Examiner has reached out to the governor’s campaign for the latest numbers.

The numbers come despite technical difficulties during an event on Twitter with Twitter CEO Elon Musk, which occurred just after DeSantis formally declared his candidacy in a post on social media. DeSantis also filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Wednesday, which signaled his intent to run for higher office.

DeSantis is the latest Republican to enter the race, coming off the heels of Sen. Tim Scott’s (R-SC) presidential announcement on Monday. The Florida governor, however, is currently perceived as former President Donald Trump’s sole competitive challenger for the Republican nomination, according to polls. But the polls still have Trump securing the nomination.

Trump, former South Carolina Republican Gov. Nikki Haley, and onetime Republican Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson have also declared their bid for the Oval Office. Billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy is also running for the GOP nomination.
