A spokesman for Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) found himself disputing claims by President Joe Biden regarding travel plans for his time in Florida.

Biden is slated to visit Florida on Saturday, and he said he will meet with DeSantis personally. However, the governor’s spokesman, Jeremy Redfern, denied Friday that there were any plans for the two to meet.

“We don’t have any plans for the Governor to meet with the President tomorrow,” Redfern said in an email to Reuters. “In these rural communities, and so soon after impact, the security preparations alone that would go into setting up such a meeting would shut down ongoing recovery efforts.”

Biden planned the visit in light of the Category 3 hurricane that struck DeSantis’s state on Wednesday. It caused damage across the state, including at DeSantis’s mansion. By Wednesday evening, the storm was downgraded to a tropical depression. The president was at the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., Thursday when he announced his travel plans.

The Bidens were initially slated to spend Labor Day weekend at their home near Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. Hunter Biden, his wife Melissa Cohen, their son Beau, and first lady Jill Biden are fresh from a vacation in Lake Tahoe while Congress was out of session last month.

Biden also recently visited Maui due to the wildfires that broke out on the island. The president was vacationing in Delaware when the fires first broke out in early August, and he waited two weeks before visiting the island.

DeSantis and Biden have been in contact about the emergency response, along with the governors of Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Biden approved an emergency declaration for Florida earlier this week.
