Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is planning to make a "major" announcement on Thursday morning.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is planning to make a “major” announcement on Thursday morning.

His press secretary, Christina Pushaw, shared the news in a tweet Wednesday evening that also said: “Prepare for the liberal media meltdown of the year.”

“Everyone get some rest tonight,” she added, along with some smiley emojis.

What exactly DeSantis will announce was not immediately clear, but Pushaw said in a follow-up tweet that the “surprise” announcement is not campaign-related but “official business.”

DeSantis is running for reelection and is often discussed as a top contender should he run for president in 2024. However, as there are mere months before the November midterm elections, announcing a campaign for the White House at this juncture would be unlikely.

Pushaw’s messages came about an hour and a half after Rep. Charlie Crist (FL), a Democratic candidate for governor, similarly tweeted about a “big” announcement planned for 11 a.m. on Thursday.

The Florida governor and his press team have become fairly effective in drawing national attention, including this week when they shared a fiery response on social media turning down an offer for DeSantis to appear on ABC’s The View.

Over the past couple of years, DeSantis has bucked national trends, eschewing heavy pandemic suppression measures and guidance during the thick of the COVID-19 pandemic. He said on Wednesday that politicians are similarly “trying to sow fear into the population” with the monkeypox outbreak.

DeSantis has also made waves with his support for the controversial Parental Rights Act, measures aiming at curbing “wokeness” in public schools, and fighting with Disney.
