Ukraine is taking advantage of dissent among Russia’s ranks as Vladimir Putin appears to be fending off the beginning of a civil war.
Zelensky adviser Mykhalio Podolyak told reporters the counteroffensive, which has liberated eight villages in Eastern Ukraine, has thrown Russia into chaos. And what appears to be rebellion by one of Putin’s top lieutenants, Wagner group commander Yevgeny Prigozhin, who has been known as “Putin’s chef” is a natural result of the modestly successful counteroffensive, Ukrainian leaders say.

“The launch of the Ukrainian counteroffensive has finally destabilized the Russian elites, exacerbating the internal split that emerged after the defeat in Ukraine,” Podolyak said.
Following rumblings that his country’s counteroffensive has been underwhelming, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky slammed the “stupidity” of Russia’s government, saying the simmering coup has exposed the “weakness” of the Russian leader.

“For a long time, Russia used propaganda to mask its weakness and the stupidity of its government,” he tweeted. “Russia’s weakness is obvious. Full-scale weakness. And the longer Russia keeps its troops and mercenaries on our land, the more chaos, pain, and problems it will have for itself later.”
