Seven people are dead in Chicago during a violent Independence Day weekend in which more than 50 people were shot, according to authorities.
At least 54 people were shot over the holiday period in the streets of the city, per Chicago police.

In an eight-hour span, 16 people were shot and two were killed from Saturday evening into Sunday morning, according to a report.
The violence included a shooting in the city’s Chinatown on Friday night that killed a woman while also injuring two other people, Chicago police said.
Other fatalities over the July Fourth weekend include a man shot in Englewood, in the city’s South Side, on Friday and a man shot in the neck while in the passenger seat of a car on Sunday in Brighton Park, in the city’s Southwest Side, according to authorities.
One of the nonfatal shootings included a 10-year-old boy in his home in Englewood. The boy is in good condition after being injured in his bedroom from gunshots, according to a report.

There was more violence this weekend, compared with the five deaths and 24 shot last weekend, but less violence than Independence Day weekend last year, during which 14 people were killed and 74 injured.
