A 7-year-old boy in Texas was fatally shot in the chest Sunday while lying in bed at his Harris County home.
Paul Vasquez died of wounds he suffered after his trailer home was riddled by bullets during a drive-by shooting around 11:00 p.m., the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.
Officers responded after they received a call from Vasquez’s family, who said they were either asleep or preparing for bed when a silver sedan appeared and began firing into the trailer, according to a report.

Vasquez, his two brothers, and his mother were in the home, but the young boy was the only one shot, police said.
“He was in his bed in his bedroom. His bedroom was in front of the trailer home where the gunfire struck the trailer home,” HCSO Sgt. Jason Brown said.
“He was initially shot, and he was able to tell his mom he was shot before becoming unresponsive.”
Vasquez was taken to a local hospital where he died, police said.
“A child was killed and during a drive-by shooting this morning. This is the daily toll of gun violence. Gun violence in the US can’t be viewed as a solitary issue,” Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted.
