The second of March’s double payments will be sent to Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries in five days, according to the Social Security Administration’s schedule.

The second payment, worth $914 for individual filers, will be delivered on Friday, March 31. It will take the place of April’s monthly payment because April 1 is on a Saturday this year. The first disbursement was sent out to eligible recipients on March 1. Since there are two disbursements in March, individual recipients should receive a total of $1,828 this month.

Other groups also qualify for the double payment, including eligible couples. Couples will receive two payments of $1,371 in March, and essential people, who live with a person receiving SSI and provide them with necessary care, will get two checks for $458 each.

The SSA typically only issues one monthly SSI check, which is disbursed on the first day of the month. But when the first day of a month is a holiday or weekend, the administration releases the checks on the last business day of the previous month to ensure recipients have the check by the first, according to the agency.

There are three other months in which people will see two payments this year: June, September, and December. This is because the first of the month falls on a weekend in July and October. December sees two checks every year because Jan. 1 is a national holiday.

SSI payments were first issued by the SSA in January 1974, and payment rates have increased for cost-of-living adjustments each year since 1975, the agency said.

The supplemental payments are separate from the retirement pay that retirees receive each month.
