Supplemental Security Income recipients are set to receive their next payment at the start of next month, according to the Social Security Administration.
This payment, scheduled for May 1, will be paid out to recipients of SSI and is one of 12 payments that SSI recipients receive per year. These SSI payments are sent out to recipients on the first business day of the month. For months when the first is on a weekend or holiday, the checks are sent out on the last business day of the previous month, according to the SSA.

Other groups also qualify for this payment, including certain eligible couples. Couples will receive a payment of $1,371, and essential people who live with a person receiving SSI and provide them with necessary care will get a check worth $458.
SSI recipients will get no payment in the month of April. They got two payments in March — one on March 1 and another on March 31. The latter payment served as April’s payment because April 1 is on a Saturday this year.

SSI payments were first issued by the Social Security Administration in January 1974, but the amount recipients have received has increased for cost-of-living adjustments each year since 1975, the agency said.
The supplemental payments are separate from the retirement pay that retirees receive each month.
