The first of two Supplemental Security Income payments that will arrive in March, worth $914 for individuals, was delivered to beneficiaries on Wednesday.
The next check, worth the same amount, will be released on March 31 to those same people. The double payment means recipients will get $1,828 in March.

Eligible couples will receive double payments of $1,371. Essential persons, people who live with someone receiving SSI and provide them with necessary care, will receive a double payment of $458 in March.
The Social Security Administration typically only issues one SSI check every month — on the first of the month. But when the first day of a month lands on a holiday or weekend, the administration releases the checks on the last business day of the previous month to ensure recipients have the check by the first, per the agency. This results in recipients receiving two checks in the same calendar month multiple times a year. However, beneficiaries still receive a total of 12 checks per year.

Recipients are receiving the SSI payment for April in March because April 1 falls on a Saturday this year.
Three other months will also see two payments delivered: June, September, and December. This is because the first of the month falls on a weekend in July and October and Jan. 1 is always a national holiday.
SSI payments were first issued by the SSA in January 1974, with payment rates increasing for cost-of-living adjustments since 1975, according to the agency.
