The first of two Supplemental Security Income payments arriving in March will be issued to recipients in only 10 days.

The first payment will be sent out on March 1 and will be worth $914. Recipients will receive a second payment of the same amount at the end of the month on March 31, equaling a total of $1,828 for the month of March, according to the Social Security Administration’s schedule.

Eligible couples will also receive two payments on March 1 and 31, but their payments will be worth $1,371. Essential persons, people who live with someone receiving SSI and provide them with necessary care, will receive payments of $458, according to the SSA.

The Social Security Administration typically issues a monthly SSI check on the first day of the month. However, if the first falls on a weekend or holiday, then the administration sends out the check on the last business day before the first so that recipients will have the money on the first.

Three other months this year will see two payments issued in the same month: June, September, and December. This is because the first of the month falls on a weekend or holiday in July, October, and January 2024.

The Social Security Administration first issued SSI payments in January 1974. Payment rates have increased for cost-of-living adjustments since 1975, according to the agency.
