New York musicians have two days left to apply to a new guaranteed income program that will give them an extra $200 every month.
The Local Sound Collaborative will select six recipients to receive the $200 monthly stipend as part of its Artist Grants Program. Applications, which opened on April 3, will close on June 3, according to the organization. The payments will then begin in December and last for one year.

To be eligible for the program, the applicant must live in the greater Rochester area of New York and be at least 18 years old. They must also identify as a member, worker, or participant in the local music community and demonstrate a financial need for the income.
Recipients will be allowed to spend the payment on whatever they please, including groceries, travel expenses, and new equipment for their music.

The organization said it is hoping to expand the program in the future, including offering support for hundreds of musicians in the area, but will only select six recipients this year. Among those selected will be three people of color.
Those interested in applying can do so online on the Local Sound Collaborative’s website.
