Low-income residents in New Mexico are set to receive a fourth stimulus check of $400, with the deadline to apply only two days away.
Residents of the Land of Enchantment have until 5 p.m. on Oct. 7 to apply for the stimulus checks, which are expected to begin rolling out by late November. To apply, residents must have a form of identification such as an individual taxpayer identification number or Social Security number.

“Many low-income New Mexico families have experienced substantial economic and personal losses,” Angela Medrano, deputy secretary for the New Mexico Human Services Department, explained. “These funds will help people in our communities who need the extra money to help feed and house their families.”
Those who win approval for the fourth check will be informed by government officials through snail mail or email before receiving payments via direct deposit or check.
Applications for the fourth stimulus opened on Sept. 26. The state has $10 million to deliver to its residents. Government officials will determine the amount one receives based on the need of the applicant. The Human Services Department is overseeing the program.
“Depending on the number of eligible applications, the funds can be distributed accordingly,” an HSD spokesperson told KROE News 13. “Our hope is that we get a good amount of applications so that we can serve the people who need it the most.”

New Mexico is expected to prioritize applicants with the lowest incomes and has not set a maximum income for eligibility.
Funding for the measure was approved by the state legislature earlier this year. To apply, residents can use the YES New Mexico website.
