South Carolina residents who have filed their 2021 tax returns will be starting the New Year off with a great financial start, thanks to a tax rebate that will give them up to $800.

The specific amount that recipients will receive from this payment will be based on their 2021 tax liability, which is defined as the amount left over after subtracting credits from the income tax they owe. For people whose tax liabilities are less than $800, their rebates will be equal to their tax liability, while filers with a tax liability equal to or over $800 will receive exactly $800, according to the South Carolina Department of Revenue.

The money from this payment will be given in the same bank account that people received their 2021 refund. South Carolina residents who have filed their 2021 SC1040 tax forms by Oct. 17 can expect to receive this rebate before Dec. 31.

For any recipients who want an idea of when they will receive their payment, they can do so by tracking their payments online. To do this, people will need either their Social Security number or the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number from their SC1040 form to use the tracking site.
