Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH) is expected to issue his coveted endorsement to former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley during a town hall event in New Hampshire on Tuesday.

Several sources reportedly told WMUR that the governor has decided on a candidate to get behind and that Haley beat out her competitors, namely Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Haley is set to take part in a town hall in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Tuesday, which Sununu’s office confirmed he would be attending.

The governor’s office said it was not able to confirm more than the fact he would be at the event.

In a statement, Sununu said, “I look forward to joining Nikki at her town hall this evening — it’s going to be a lot of fun!”

The New Hampshire governor has been appearing at campaign events in his state for several Republican candidates, including Haley, DeSantis, and Christie, as they court voters. And despite former President Donald Trump’s significant lead both nationally and in his state, Sununu has maintained that Trump won’t be the Republican nominee.

Representatives for the Haley, DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy, Christie, and Trump campaigns did not provide comment to the Washington Examiner.

In an interview last month with the Washington Examiner, Sununu previewed his plan to endorse a candidate in the primary in the coming weeks.

He explained he wanted to “choose somebody that I think can be a great leader for this country — not just who can win.” According to him, the ability to win is a “weak argument” on its own.

“The argument that these folks have to make is that they really are positioned to be America’s best opportunity to lead the country, lead the world, in what is undoubtedly going to be some very tough times ahead,” he said at the time.

Per WMUR’s report, he has found the candidate with these attributes in Haley, who polls second to Trump in New Hampshire.

The first-in-the-nation primary will take place on Jan. 23 in the Granite State.
