Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH) predicted 2024 presidential candidate Donald Trump will lose again to President Joe Biden.

“Donald Trump cannot actually win the votes in November of ’24. He can get the nomination, but he can’t actually close the deal against Biden,” Sununu said Sunday on ABC’s This Week. “That is not a good thing.”

Sununu suggested that voters view the multiple indictments against Trump to be “politically driven,” and therefore are not phased by them. Yet, he pointed out that there is a decline in Trump’s poll numbers in New Hampshire and added that he’s polling roughly 40% in Iowa, opening the door for other GOP presidential hopefuls. According to the governor, the other options are “quality candidates.”

“He is the sitting — an incumbent president,” Sununu said of Trump. “Anyone who thinks that he wouldn’t be at the top — of course, he was gonna be at the top. He’s got the name ID, the recognition, all of that. Again, the fact that the majority of Republicans clearly don’t want him, that’s an opportunity.”

New Hampshire supported President Joe Biden in the 2020 election and former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton in the 2016 election. The state has four Electoral College votes.

The other dozen Republican candidates include former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Rep. Will Hurd, former Vice President Mike Pence, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, political commentator Larry Elder, businessman Perry Johnson, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

Sununu previously announced that he would not be running for reelection.
