The Los Angeles Police Department announced Saturday it has the suspect of three murders in custody.

All the homicide victims were considered to be homeless, according to LAPD Chief Michel Moore, and were shot and killed between Sunday and Wednesday. The murders happened in public places early in the morning, and likely while the victims were still asleep.

Police had spread images of the male suspect and his car, which traffic cameras at the scenes showed was a dark-colored sedan. They have yet to reveal the suspect’s identity.

“The suspect is also believed to be responsible for a murder being investigated by the LA County Sheriff’s Department, and he was taken into custody by the Beverly Hills Police Department,” LAPD wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Great partnership and use of technology to take this suspected murderer off the streets.”

As a result of the serial murders, the LAPD opened emergency shelters Friday to keep people from sleeping on the streets alone.

Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority reported 69,144 people were homeless in 2022. However, a subsequent research group named Rand Corp. surveyed the areas of Hollywood, Skid Row, and Venice to find that the areas there had been undercounted by at least half.

Regardless of the undercounting, the Homeless Services Authority found a 4% increase in homeless people from 2020.
