Several Target stores in Utah, Pennsylvania, and Ohio received bomb threats relating to the store’s Pride collection.
An email was sent to Cleveland 19 News on Friday threatening five stores in Ohio’s Jackson Township, Boardman, Stow, Niles, and Monaca, Pennsylvania. The email referenced what it called Target catering to the wants of “homophobic right wing redneck bigots.”

This comes after a week drenched in controversy over Target’s most recent collection, which included apparel for children and designs from Abprallen, a brand out of the United Kingdom that has created apparel that alludes to satanist symbols.
Two local news stations in Utah received threats on stores in the cities of Layton, Salt Lake, Taylorsville, and Provo. The Layton store evacuated its store briefly on Friday.
Layton Police Sgt. John Ottesen summarized the email as being three sentences long from a “bogus email address,” according to KUTV. Ottesen suggested subpoenas could be sought to identify the sender.

Target acknowledged earlier this week that nationwide, it has “experienced threats impacting our team members’ sense of safety and well-being while at work.” As a result, it removed some of its items for sale.
The retailer’s shares slipped another 1.22% on Friday, which added to the total 12.6% lost during the first week of the collection’s availability, according to Dow Jones Market Data Group. Total losses are calculated to be $9.3 billion in market value.
