A Nashville teacher was robbed at knife-point and forced into the school’s gym closet Tuesday shortly after she arrived at work.
The teacher, identified as a 36-year-old woman, was confronted by Willie Joe Buford, 65, at about 7 a.m. as she arrived in the parking lot of the LEAD Cameron School, according to a release from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

“The victim reported that a stranger, subsequently identified as Buford, approached, pulled a butcher knife, and demanded her cash,” the release read.
After the teacher said she had no money to give, Buford allegedly took her car keys, cellphone, watch, and air pods.
“She said he then made her go into the gym, where he pushed her into a closet. He then fled in the victim’s Honda Accord,” according to the release.
“Buford drove the victim’s car to a downtown parking garage and then boarded a city bus. He got off the bus on Murfreesboro Pike. South Precinct officers tracked Buford using the victim’s phone and took him into custody later Tuesday morning at I-24 and Murfreesboro Pike.”
He later showed authorities where he had ditched the teacher’s vehicle, police said.
