The investigation covering approximately 50,000 Model X SUVs is headed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to reports.

The manufacturing years for the models under scrutiny are 2022 to 2023, a report noted.

At least two complaints alleging that the front belts of the distinct Teslas were not sufficiently attached led to the investigation, and both claimed that the belt linkage and pretensioners had separated while driving when a force acted on them.

The seat belt’s linkage and pretensioners are responsible for tightening the belts prior to a crash.

Neither incident was related to an accident.

The NHTSA will investigate Tesla’s manufacturing processes to see if recalls are necessary.
