Texas Secretary of State John Scott accused Alex Jones, among other conspiracy theorists, of creating an environment that fosters a growing number of threats against election workers.

The Republican shared his sentiment on the InfoWars host in an interview that was published on Monday. The secretary of state told Texas Monthly he and other people in the elections division have received death threats. Scott said he does not know “what’s caused it,” but he did say Jones has long been a thorn in the side of his office.

“The InfoWars guy has unleashed hell on our election people,” Scott said. “This has been going on for many years. And I don’t want to give a free pass to people who are crazy enough to go out there and say they’re going to kill somebody because they’re doing their job.”

In the event that election workers are threatened for doing their job, Scott said his office has instructed them to report any type of threats to local law enforcement agencies immediately.

The biggest misconception about elections, according to Scott, is that voting machines are connected to the internet. Texas has “zero machines” that are connected to the internet, or anything, and the lack of a connection is “what gives them the protection that we depend upon,” he said.

Accusations of election fraud increased when former President Donald Trump claimed without evidence that the 2020 presidential election results were invalid and that he had actually won the election. Scott told the outlet that President Joe Biden “absolutely” won the election legitimately and that he has “never hesitated on that answer.”
