Three people were arrested at a protest at Union Station in Washington, D.C., on Friday night, where a crowd of hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters gathered to call for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.

The protest, the likes of which was also seen at Penn Station in New York City, resulted in the station’s red line being shut down for three hours while the protest was happening. However, when the crowds dissipated at around 8 p.m., the trains resumed their schedule, according to WTOP News.

Protesters douse the walls outside the station with graffiti and press red hand prints on them. Those arrested were detained for defacing property, the Metropolitan Police Department told the Washington Examiner. A fourth person was also arrested at Union Station on Friday night but was unrelated to the protest.

“After so many years, I’m still here protesting. I was [my daughter’s] age when I went to the first protest and here I am bringing my daughter, and that’s why I’m crying,” one unnamed protester told WUSA-9. “Because my daughter has to be here when at her age, I was here too, and nothing has changed, not a single thing.”

The protesters are calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war, which has stretched on for more than a month, and resulted in the deaths of thousands of people on both sides, including civilian women and children.

Friday’s event comes after a pro-Palestinian protest turned violent outside of the Democratic National Committee’s headquarters on Wednesday and resulted in multiple arrests. Six Capitol police officers were injured in Wednesday’s riot. Protesters also shut down the Bay Bridge in San Francisco on Thursday.

Thousands also gathered in New York City on Friday night to call for a ceasefire. The demonstrators held handmade signs with messages like “Ceasefire now” and chanted “Free Palestine,” according to the New York Times.

On the other side of the war, hundreds of thousands of pro-Israel supporters gathered at the National Mall during the March for Israel to stand with the Jewish community on Tuesday.
