TikTok is taking steps to compete with Amazon by expanding its e-commerce efforts and creating a supply chain to sell products.
The Chinese-affiliated social media platform has begun taking steps to construct fulfillment centers to deliver products ordered on its platforms, according to job listings found by Axios. The news comes after TikTok began developing live shopping features on its app in an attempt to expand into the commerce industry, as it did in China.
TikTok is looking to build an “international e-commerce fulfillment system,” according to the listings, including international warehousing, customs clearing, and supply chain systems supporting domestic e-commerce in the United States.

The jobs appear to be based in Seattle, where Amazon is headquartered. The job listings include a “logistics solution manager” to oversee the design and implementation of the supply chain. TikTok is also looking for employees to help construct a fulfillment service center “from scratch.”
The center is “a global team responsible for developing and growing our logistics solution,” the listings say. While the team appears to be starting in Seattle, there are intentions to construct a global logistics and warehousing network, according to other job listings.
TikTok intends to provide “a selection of merchants which offer a range of product options as well as delivery options,” a spokesperson said.
TikTok announced last week that it was launching a live shopping service in the U.S. that would help it sell products. It also intends to launch Shopify-powered storefronts on the app, allowing the company to sell products directly through its interface.

The proposed plans echo TikTok parent company ByteDance’s efforts in China, where it is an e-commerce giant.
TikTok continues to expand its e-commerce efforts after reaching a preliminary deal with the White House to ensure that U.S. user data are safe and protected from Chinese access. TikTok has been the focus of scrutiny from lawmakers after reports over the summer revealed the Chinese employees had access to U.S. data.
