Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) released his first video on YouTube on Friday since filing to run for the Republican nomination for president in 2024, called “Simple Truths.”

In the video, which was filmed in Charleston, South Carolina, in April, Scott reflected on how children currently grow up in a world where “everyone’s a victim,” and urged his audience to teach them about individual responsibility.

“If you are able-bodied, you work. If you take out a loan, you pay it back. If you committed a violent crime, you go to jail,” Scott said to the audience in the video. “Can I get an amen? I’m telling you the truth.”

Scott is not expected to officially announce his campaign for president until Monday, but is already planning to start with a major ad buy worth nearly $6 billion. The ads will run statewide in Iowa and New Hampshire, the first two GOP nominating contests, through the party’s first presidential debate.

Other candidates running for the GOP nomination include former President Donald Trump, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-AR). Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is expected to enter the race as early as next week.

Scott’s video on Friday already received high praise from Twitter CEO, and Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk, who called it a “great message.”

The senator responded that the message was his campaign’s “mission” and told the CEO that he would save him a seat at his kickoff event on Monday.

After Scott’s Monday declaration, he will travel to Iowa on Wednesday and New Hampshire on Thursday. The following week he will join Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) at her Roast and Ride event.

Scott’s home state of South Carolina will also host an early GOP nominating contest. Its primary has frequently been decisive in competitive races for the Republican presidential nomination.
