More than 3,000 theaters nationwide are selling tickets for just $3 for any movie at any showtime in any format for the inaugural holiday, according to the Cinema Foundation. The deal offers a steep discount, with the national price for a movie ticket in 2019 at roughly $9.

“After this summer’s record-breaking return to cinemas, we wanted to do something to celebrate moviegoing,” Cinema Foundation President Jackie Brenneman said. “We’re doing it by offering a ‘thank-you’ to the moviegoers that made this summer happen and by offering an extra enticement for those who haven’t made it back yet.”
The new national holiday is the latest effort by the cinema industry to lure in moviegoers during a holiday weekend that typically doesn’t see many ticket sales. Major movie theaters such as AMC and Regal Cinemas are offering $3 tickets for all movies, including those offered in special formats such as 4D or Imax.
Cinemark Theatres even announced it would offer deals on concessions by selling drinks, food, and candy for just $3.
