Former President Donald Trump says he agrees with an assessment by journalist and podcaster Megyn Kelly about how Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) would not stand a chance in a face-off against Trump in the 2024 Republican primary contest.
Kelly, who was criticized by Trump in graphic fashion during the 2016 election cycle, made the prediction in a recent interview with BlazeTV Host Dave Rubin.
During the lengthy conversation on “The Rubin Report,” Kelly said she doubts anyone could beat Trump in a battle for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024, and when asked about the Florida governor, she insisted, “The only way DeSantis is going to become the Republican nominee is if Trump chooses not to run and endorses him or dies.” Kelly went on to describe how Trump’s “Make America Great Again” supporters like DeSantis, but they don’t think it is his turn because they feel Trump is “entitled” to another shot.
Trump shared a clip of this interview, which appeared to be sped up, on his Truth Social account late Wednesday. “I AGREE!” he said in all capital letters.

Neither Trump nor DeSantis have declared a bid for the White House in 2024. Trump has heavily hinted that he plans to commit to a third campaign for the White House in 2024 but has not formally declared his candidacy. “I will probably have to do it again,” he said at a rally this past weekend. DeSantis has said he is focused on winning reelection this year, however in a debate this week he dodged questions about whether he’d commit to serving another full four-year term as Florida governor.
There have been signs of friction between the two, including this weekend when Trump posted on Truth Social, “BIG MISTAKE!”, after DeSantis recorded a robocall for a Republican candidate whom the former president has rejected.

Trump famously denigrated Kelly in 2015 after she had a contentious back-and-forth with him during the first Republican presidential primary debate when she was still a Fox News anchor, including when Kelly asked Trump about his past comments referring to women as, “fat pigs, dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals.”
Afterwards, in an interview with CNN, Trump complained of being asked “ridiculous questions” and said of Kelly, “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her … wherever.” Trump and his allies went on to berate Kelly for months, a period she later recalled as being a “scary” time.
