Allies of former President Donald Trump mocked rival Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) on Tuesday after news surfaced that DeSantis planned to make a special announcement on Wednesday.

Karoline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for the Trump-aligned Make America Great Again Inc., slammed the announcement of what is widely believed to be a DeSantis 2024 campaign announcement for the Republican nomination for president as “out of touch” and claimed the governor was “unelectable.”

WHO’S IN, WHO’S OUT, AND WHO’S STILL WAITING TO ANNOUNCE FOR SENATE IN 2024

“This is one of the most out-of-touch campaign launches in modern history,” Leavitt said in a statement. “The only thing less relatable than a niche campaign launch on Twitter, is DeSantis’ after party at the uber-elite Four Seasons resort in Miami. Everyday more and more Americans are realizing just how out of step Ron DeSantis is with their values and how unelectable he really is.”

Leavitt added that she felt DeSantis was “just not ready to be president” and that Trump was because he was “ready on day one to turn our country around, reverse Biden’s disastrous policies and make America great again.”

The spokesman for Trump’s presidential campaign, Steven Cheung, also mocked DeSantis’s announcement after a typo said the announcement date was “March 24” instead of May.

“Amateur hour at the gator farm,” Cheung tweeted with a screenshot of the typo.

Another Trump campaign aide Chris LaCavita tweeted a picture of an alligator being strung up after it was revealed that the governor’s website only had a gator on it and nothing else. He also claimed before the announcement that DeSantis’s “big accomplishment” is “generating more candidates!”

DeSantis boosters are teasing a “special” Twitter Spaces event that is rumored to include his future plans for 2024. The event will feature a discussion with Twitter CEO Elon Musk and be moderated by entrepreneur David Sacks and will take place at 6 p.m.

The Florida governor has consistently polled as Trump’s chief GOP rival in the primary, though the former president has a roughly 37-point edge over him in the latest RealClearPolitics aggregate.

DeSantis has long suggested that a 2024 decision will come after the Florida legislature wraps up its legislative session, which happened earlier this month. News of his announcement comes on the heels of Sen. Tim Scott’s (R-SC) entrance to the 2024 race on Monday.
