Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said the leaked audio of former President Donald Trump discussing classified documents is further proof that the federal government lacks trustworthiness.

“We need confidence in our government, in our institutions,” McEnany said on Hannity. “And clearly, this doesn’t instill much when this is getting leaked to the likes of CNN.”

In the audio, which was obtained by CNN, Trump, while ruffling papers, could be heard discussing a Department of Defense plan concerning Iran.

The audio recording is referenced within the Department of Justice’s indictment of Trump, which claims the people Trump is talking with do not have the necessary security clearance related to the documents.

In response to CNN airing the leaked audio, Trump slammed the cable news network for furthering what he has described as the “witch hunt” of the Department of Justice, the FBI, and special counsel Jack Smith.

“The Deranged Special Prosecutor, Jack Smith, working in conjunction with the DOJ & FBI, illegally leaked and ‘spun’ a tape and transcript of me which is actually an exoneration, rather than what they would have you believe,” Trump posted to Truth Social.

“This continuing Witch Hunt is another ELECTION INTERFERENCE Scam,” he continued. “They are cheaters and thugs!”

McEnany noted that it is not surprising that new polling showed voters’ approval of the DOJ and FBI sits at a 30% low.
