Former President Donald Trump was hit by conservative politicians over his recent abortion comments.

Trump has been taking flak from conservative figures recently following comments made during an interview in which he described Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R-FL) six-week abortion ban as “terrible.” Gov. Kim Reynolds (R-IA), who has been embroiled in a feud with Trump, began by taking a shot at Trump over X, formerly known as Twitter.

“It’s never a ‘terrible thing’ to protect innocent life. I’m proud of the fetal heartbeat bill the Iowa legislature passed and I signed in 2018 and again earlier this year,” Reynolds posted.

Trump’s primary Republican challenger, DeSantis, also denounced his comments, quote-tweeting Reynolds’s post.

“I applaud Governor @KimReynoldsIA and the Iowa legislature for promoting a culture of life,” DeSantis wrote. “Donald Trump is wrong to attack the heartbeat bill as ‘terrible.’ Standing for life is a noble cause.”

Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA), who has taken shots at Trump recently, took the opportunity to bash the former president as well.

“There’s nothing ‘terrible’ about standing up for life,” he said. “In addition to passing the heartbeat bill, Georgia has proudly protected and valued life through implementing adoption and foster care reforms, and combatting human trafficking – and will continue to do so as long as I’m governor.”

Amid the barrage of criticism, Trump defended his stance in a post on Truth Social, pointing out his role in overturning Roe v. Wade.

“I was able to do something that nobody thought was possible, end Roe v. Wade. For 52 years, people talked, spent vast amounts of money, but couldn’t get the job done. I got the job done! Thanks to the three great Supreme Court Justices I appointed, this issue has been returned to the States, where all Legal Scholars, on both sides, felt it should be. Now the Pro Life Community has TREMENDOUS NEGOTIATING POWER,” Trump wrote.

“Like Ronald Reagan before me, I believe in the three exceptions for Rape, Incest, and the Life of the Mother. Without the exceptions, it is very difficult to win Elections, we would probably lose the Majorities in 2024, and perhaps the Presidency itself, but you must follow your HEART! In order to win in 2024, Republicans must learn how to talk about Abortion. This issue cost us unnecessarily, but dearly, in the Midterms,” he continued.

“We have to expose the Democrats, like Crooked Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, as being the true Radicals on the Abortion issue, in that they allow the killing of babies in the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th months, and even after birth,” Trump added. “But it was OK to “rip the baby out of the womb” under Roe v. Wade, and destroy a living soul. Now, with Roe v. Wade no longer, the power to negotiate is with the Pro Life Movement, not the Radical Left Democrats who are so willing to destroy Life!”
