Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump warned Saturday that “it’s going to be a bloodbath” if he does not get elected in November.

The former president was speaking at a rally in Ohio for Senate candidate Bernie Moreno, who is locked in a bitter battle ahead of Tuesday’s primary election, when he made the comment. He had just addressed Chinese President Xi Jinping, telling him the United States would impose 100% tariffs on cars imported from Chinese plants in Mexico if he wins a second term in the White House.

“Now if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole — that’s going to be the least of it,” Trump said. “It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country, that’ll be the least of it.”

Trump returned to the topic of Chinese-imported cars after that. Later in the speech, he said 2024 might be the last election in the U.S. if he does not win.

“If we don’t win this election, I don’t think you’re going to have another election, or certainly not an election that’s meaningful,” Trump said.

Both Trump and President Joe Biden have increasingly painted the other as a threat to democracy ahead of their all-but guaranteed rematch of the 2020 election. The president’s campaign released a statement Saturday night, pointing to both comments as evidence that the former president “doubles down on his threats of political violence.”

“He wants another January 6, but the American people are going to give him another electoral defeat this November because they continue to reject his extremism, his affection for violence, and his thirst for revenge,” the statement reads.

Both men secured the number of delegates necessary to become their respective parties’ presumptive nominees on Tuesday, setting them up for what Trump said will be “the most important date in the history of our country” — Election Day, Nov. 5.
