Former President Donald Trump claimed on Saturday that “treasonous” attacks on him will continue as polling continues to put him favorably above his opponents.

Trump claimed that he is “way up” in a recent poll on President Joe Biden in the general election, and because of this, Democrats will continue with their “fake investigations on me.” The statement comes after Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records in April, as well as a civil court concluding that he sexually abused E. Jean Carroll in mid-May.

“A Poll just came out where I am way up on Biden in the General Election,” Trump’s statement on Truth Social read. “What that means is that the Radical Left Democrats will step up their Fake Investigations on me because they now see they can’t win at the Ballot Box. TRUMP Hating Special Prosecutor Jack Smith, whose family and friends are Big Time Haters also, will be working overtime on this treasonous quest. They are scoundrels and cheats. THIS IS ALL ABOUT ELECTION INTERFERENCE. I hope Republicans in Congress are watching!!!”

It is not clear what poll Trump was specifically referring to, though a recent poll did find him handily defeating all of his top challengers for the GOP nomination in head-to-head contests.

A total of 58% of Republican voters say they’d back Trump if the GOP primary was held today, putting him far ahead of other candidates like Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who has yet to join the 2024 race, and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.

In the six months that have passed since Trump announced his candidacy in November 2022, the GOP race has increasingly grown, with business entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former California GOP gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder, and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) throwing their hats into the ring for the candidacy. Most recently, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) has filed paperwork to run for president ahead of his expected announcement next week.

DeSantis still has not announced if he will run for president in 2024, but he is seen by many to be Trump’s biggest rival.

In a recent poll from Redfield & Wilton Strategies, Biden held a narrow lead over Trump, 44%-43%, in a rematch of the 2020 presidential election, while a Biden-DeSantis matchup showed the president leading the GOP governor 47%-33%, with 11% saying they are undecided. However, Trump would lead by 42%-39% in a matchup between him and Vice President Kamala Harris.
