Former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard blasted Democrats for “failing” the United States’s servicemen and servicewomen.
Gabbard, who has served in the Army for more than 20 years, told Fox News Tonight that while she is “proud to continue to still serve our country as a soldier,” she is upset over the healthcare servicemen and servicewomen are receiving.
“The problem here is we have politicians, we have leaders in this country, who don’t care about our men and women in uniform. They don’t care about our veterans. They have used us as cannon fodder to feed the military-industrial complex,” Gabbard said.
“We end up being numbers and statistics on a page,” she continued, “at the expense of the cost of their war machine and their war business, really, which is what it is. It is a very, very profitable business for the military-industrial complex.”
Gabbard reacted to news of an Army veteran, retired Sgt. Joe Cantasano, who had taken to TikTok to share his struggle with receiving care, saying, “Now, I get to go back to some new f***ing doctor, and then they’re going to open f***ing Pandora’s box again because they’re going to want to know everything, and then I’m going to have to live through working through that f***ing muck. I just want some f***ing continuity of care.”
The former congresswoman said the Choice Act of 2014 was passed to prioritize providing veterans with medical care, including that of a non-VA healthcare entity.
“Even that clear, simple mandate, giving veterans the choice to get the best care possible, the VA has screwed up and turned into this bureaucracy,” Gabbard said, referencing Cantasano’s situation. “As he said, you have to go get pre-approval to see a private care provider, they reject the request, and all of this bureaucracy.”
“Ultimately, again, it comes out to this: They don’t care,” Gabbard blasted. “They don’t care about us. They don’t care and value the lives and the service and sacrifice of those who wear and have worn the uniform.”

Gabbard also said the lack of care for veterans is one of the reasons why she announced her departure from the Democratic Party last October.
“They feed more money into these bureaucracies that serve themselves rather than actually serving the interest of the people,” Gabbard said.
