Twitter restricted the tweet of the Florida surgeon general from Friday — only to reinstate it Sunday.

“Today, we released an analysis on COVID-19 mRNA vaccines the public needs to be aware of,” Dr. Joseph Ladapo’s restricted tweet read. “This analysis showed an increased risk of cardiac-related death among men 18-39. FL will not be silent on the truth.” Ladapo was referencing new guidance released by the state Health Department, which cautioned younger males against getting the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine.

Twitter did not respond to a request for comment from the Washington Examiner, but reinstated the tweet hours later, after a request was made. It is unclear exactly how long the tweet was restricted for. The Florida Department of Health also did not respond to a request for comment on the matter.

The social media platform has come under fire in recent years over its content moderation policies, which conservative critics have accused of being biased toward liberal users and causes. The site appears slated for a takeover by billionaire Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk, who has said he will alter the current content moderation rules in favor of an approach that protects free speech.

KISSIMMEE, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES – 2021/09/22: Newly appointed state Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo speaks during a press conference at Neo City Academy in Kissimmee, Florida. A day after being appointed, Ladapo instituted his first rule giving parents “sole discretion” over whether their child wears a mask at school, and also allowing students who come in contact with the coronavirus to continue attending class if they remain asymptomatic. The Florida Health Department examined people who had inexplicably died within 25 weeks of receiving their vaccination, excluding those that had a documented COVID-19 infection, experienced a COVID-19 associated death, received a booster, or received their last COVID-19 vaccination after December 8, 2021.

“Individuals and health care providers should also be aware that this analysis1 found: Males over the age of 60 had a 10% increased risk of cardiac-related death within 28 days of mRNA vaccination. Non-mRNA vaccines were not found to have these increased risks among any population,” the self-controlled case study read. Ladapo had included a link to the study in his tweet.

“Based on currently available data, patients should be informed of the possible cardiac complications that can arise after receiving a mRNA COVID-19 vaccine,” the subsequent guidance read. “With a high level of global immunity to COVID-19, the benefit of vaccination is likely outweighed by this abnormally high risk of cardiacrelated death among men in this age group.”

The state of Florida current recommends against use of the COVID-19 vaccine in healthy children and adolescents 5 years old to 17 years old, as well as infants and children under 5 years old.
