Two French bulldogs were stolen on Friday from a pregnant woman in Los Angeles during an armed robbery, according to law enforcement officials, but the dogs were later returned by a stranger.

Cindy Nelson, who has been pregnant for nine months, was walking her two French bulldogs, Gizmo and Milo, in the Studio City neighborhood when a man allegedly armed with a pistol approached her, pointed the gun at her, and took both dogs.

“A man jumped out of the car with a gun in his hand and held it in front of my face and grabbed my dogs. I was screaming, ‘Please, no,”’ Nelson told KABC. “It happened all so fast. And he just got in the car carrying them in the air and left.”

The suspect fled the scene in a gray SUV, keeping both dogs with him. The suspect has been described as a black man between the ages of 20 and 30 who is approximately 6 feet tall and weighs 200 pounds, the Los Angeles Police Department said. No suspect has been arrested so far.

Nelson was not hurt in the ordeal, but she was worried about her pets, the outlet reported. Gizmo has problems with his spine and legs. However, the dogs were reunited with Nelson on Friday evening after they were left with a woman who called the numbers on the dog tags. It is not clear how the dogs came into the woman’s possession.

French bulldogs are the top target for dog thieves because of their high price tag and popularity, according to the American Kennel Club. A man attempted to steal two French bulldogs from Lady Gaga last year, harming her dog walker, Ryan Fischer, in the process. The man who attacked Fischer was sentenced to 21 years in prison earlier this week after accepting a plea deal.
