Ukrainian forces have knocked out two makeshift bridges in eastern Ukraine, foiling Russian efforts to move troops and tanks across a river, according to Ukrainian officials.
Images released by the Ukrainian military on Wednesday show two pontoon bridges destroyed, side by side, reportedly in the Siverskyi Donets River in the Luhansk region. Two separate Ukrainian assaults, within 24 hours of each other, took out the bridges and several Russian military vehicles in the process, according to a report.
“The Ukrainian Armed Forces once again destroyed the [Russian] pontoon crossings across the Seversky Donets,” Luhansk Gov. Serhiy Haidai said on Telegram Wednesday.
“Bilohorivka is now an outpost of Luhansk Oblast where [Russians] keep trying to cross the river, but end up feeding the fish,” Haidai added.
BOOBY-TRAPPED BRIDGE BLOWS UP AS RUSSIAN CONVOY DRIVES OVER IT: UKRAINIAN FORCES
According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, the country’s 17th Tank Brigade was involved in the assault on the river crossing attempt. Drone footage released by Ukraine shows smoke rising from the river bank and two bridges partially submerged in the water. Numerous tanks and vehicles appear to have been destroyed as well.

Bridges have repeatedly been targeted by Ukrainian forces in order to stop convoys of Russian military vehicles from moving through the country.
In April, Ukrainian special forces claimed to have blown up a bridge in eastern Ukraine as Russian troops drove military vehicles over it. The bridge had apparently been booby-trapped by Ukrainian special forces, who placed explosives underneath it in anticipation of a Russian column heading toward it.
