R&B star Usher has been announced as the headliner for the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show.
The show, sponsored by Apple and slated for Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada on Feb. 11, will be Usher’s second since 2011 when he performed with Prairie View A&M University marching band. He is an eight-time Grammy winner, most recently receiving an album of the year Grammy nomination in 2023 for a project that he shared with a number of other artists.

“It’s an honor of a lifetime to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list. I can’t wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they’ve seen from me before,” Usher said in a press release. “Thank you to the fans and everyone who made this opportunity happen. I’ll see you real soon.”
The announcement came with a video featuring Kim Kardashian, who is seen on the phone with Usher delivering the news in a scripted skit. Kardashian was previously married to the controversial rapper Kanye West, now known as Ye, who has never performed in a Super Bowl.
Rapper Jay-Z’s entertainment agency Roc Nation will be the strategic entertainment adviser for the event. As a result of the partnership, Usher said he actually received the phone call from Jay-Z, who has been involved in selecting the performers for the last four Super Bowls.
“Usher is the ultimate artist and showman,” Jay-Z said. “His remarkable journey has propelled him to one of the grandest stages in the world. I can’t wait to see the magic.”

Usher has been a musical idol since the age of 15, known for his dance performances. He will be following Rihanna, who this year gave the most-watched halftime performance of all time. Rihanna’s performance earned the airing five Emmy nominations.
Beyonce was previously the only other black performer to return to headline the Superbowl twice. In the Superbowl’s 58-year history, there have been 27 performances headlined by black musicians.
