Rep. Val Demings (D-FL), who is running for Senate against incumbent Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), refused to answer a question on her support or lack thereof for third-trimester abortions.
On Tuesday’s Election Day episode of The View, Demings asked, “Why are we discussing this issue?” when prompted on abortion restrictions.
“Do you think there should be any legal limitations on abortion, such as in the third trimester?” Alyssa Farah Griffin asked.

Demings opted to discuss Rubio’s record rather than address her support of any restrictions on the procedure.
“Marco Rubio has consistently said that he really supports no abortions, no exceptions even in cases of incest and rape,” she told the hosts.
“You know, it’s interesting. It’s almost like trying to shame women, right? We have a right to privacy, and why are we discussing this issue in the first place?” she continued.
“I believe a woman should have access, and that is the bottom line,” she said.
Demings, who the hosts noted has an extensive law enforcement history with the Orlando Police Department, also addressed the issue of crime.
Asked about Democratic messaging on it, she claimed that Democratic politicians are sometimes too busy working that they “don’t do a good enough job of telling our story.”
Sara Haines added that she doesn’t “believe Democrats are soft on crime.”
