Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) stood by her claim that Democrats are the “party of pedophiles” when pressed about the assertion in a new interview over the weekend.
The Georgia lawmaker sat down with 60 Minutes for a wide-ranging interview that aired Sunday evening, being grilled about her litany of controversial stances by veteran journalist Lesley Stahl. The two discussed Greene’s life before entering the political arena and what motivated her to run for Congress. They also sparred over her active participation in the culture wars plaguing the nation’s politics.

Asked about her assertion that the Democrats are pedophiles, Greene stood firm, replying that, “I would definitely say so. They support grooming children.”
“Democrats support, even Joe Biden, the president himself, supports children being sexualized and having transgender surgeries. Sexualizing children is what pedophiles do to children,” she continued, responding after Stahl pressed her on why she would make such a claim.
Stahl then asked if Greene was capable of fighting for what she believes in without “all that name calling and without the personal attacks,” the Georgia congresswoman said that would require the Left to stop attacking her.
“I would ask the same question to the other side, because all they’ve done is call me names and insult me non-stop since I’ve been here, Lesley,” she replied. “They call me racist. They call me sen, anti-Semitic, which is not true. I’m not calling anyone names. I’m calling out the truth basically-”

Greene has seen her star rise in the Republican Party since first coming to Congress in 2021. At the time, then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) orchestrated Greene’s banishment from all committees over her past embrace of conspiracy theories. This included antisemitic comments, accusations the Parkland shooting was a false flag, and remarks propagating the QAnon conspiracy theory.
She went on to align herself with House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and helped him in his efforts to retake the majority in the 2022 midterms and in his prolonged speakership race. McCarthy rewarded Greene with positions on two influential panels: the House Oversight and Homeland Security committees.
Her name is now frequently mentioned as a potential 2024 running mate for former President Donald Trump.

Greene took issue with how the media framed her past statements and actions and disputed the accuracy of certain claims against her, saying that the press “never focus on anything good about me.”
“Have you fact-checked all my statements from kindergarten through 12th grade? And in college?” she asked rhetorically while discussing her controversies. “And I’ve paid my taxes, and never broken a law. I got a few speeding tickets. Do we need to talk about those too?”
