Former University of Georgia head football coach Vince Dooley was treated to a surprise birthday celebration Saturday in Atlanta.
Before the Bulldogs kicked off against the Oregon Ducks at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, a large birthday cake was wheeled onto the field to the tune of 73,000 people singing “Happy Birthday” as the Georgia Redcoat Marching Band played.
Dooley turned 90 years old Sunday.

The former Bulldogs coach assumed he was on the field just to be honored among a group of Peach Bowl legends, according to the Atlantic Journal-Constitution
“We both had been fortunate to live most of our lives around a ‘communiversity,’ taking advantage of all its opportunities,” Dooley told the news outlet, referencing himself and his wife, Barbara. “I have been able to survive crises on and off the field, which comes with representing a prestigious public institution.”
Dooley has been associated with UGA for nearly 60 years. Prior to assuming a consultant’s role in 2004, Dooley worked as both a football coach and the athletic director.
