The Washington Examiner’s David Drucker explained Monday that Democrats are facing an “uphill battle” going into the November midterm elections.

“Republicans don’t even need a wave to win control of Congress. They just need history to behave the way history has behaved,” Drucker said on Special Report with Bret Baier.

“The most important issues to voters were then, and are now especially, inflation, the economy generally, crime, energy, the border in certain places. All of those issues are playing in favor of Republicans. And there’s just not anything Democrats can do about it right now,” he told host Bret Baier. “And it’s possible that president Biden’s policies will eventually work, but they are not going to work in time for Nov. 8. And so they are fighting an uphill battle.”

According to him, midterm elections often end up being “very tight races until the bitter end.” However, Drucker explained that “the only thing I would say that might be different this time around is Democrats are legitimately more energized than they have [a] right to be being the party in power.”

“I think a lot of Democrats are going to show up,” he predicted. “I also think a lot of Republicans are going to show up. We could see a few surprises, but Republicans are in the driver’s seat. You wouldn’t politically want to be in any better position than they are in today.”

On President Joe Biden’s foreign policy, Drucker said some of his choices, in particular the Afghanistan exit, emboldened the United States’s adversaries. He further detailed hearing from candidates who want to focus less on Ukraine and funding their defense against Russia and more on China. But Drucker explained that the two are connected, predicting that China is watching the U.S.’s moves carefully to see how the country may react to future actions in Taiwan.
