Political strategist and pollster Dick Morris said former President Donald Trump is reshaping the Republican Party in an “unprecedented” way.

The onetime adviser to former President Bill Clinton made the comments while appearing on Newsmax’s Saturday Report.

“In 2016, Trump orchestrated a takeover of the Republican Party,” Morris said. “Now he’s orchestrating a makeover of the Republican Party. It’s unprecedented. It’s never happened before, and the former incumbent president really is reshaping the Republican Party and making it into a MAGA, America-first institution.”

Morris said he has seen how policies shape a presidential legacy. The political consultant and author of The Return: Trump’s big 2024 Comeback, noted that Trump’s experience in the Oval Office will be the difference maker for 2024.

“Clearly, he’s running,” Morris stated. “The key thing to remember is that Donald Trump is the only candidate — and I stressed this in my book — who can say the four magic words, ‘I did it already. You can’t control borders? Nonsense, I did it already. Inflation is inevitable in our global economy. Nonsense, I held prices down already. You can’t get gas back to $2; there’s a global shortage. I did it already.’ And in each of the areas that are [President Joe] Biden’s problems and Democratic problems, Trump solved them already.”

A straw poll taken at CPAC in Texas Saturday showed Trump leading potential Republican candidates with 69% of attendees’ support. CPAC said the lead represented a double-digit jump from last last year’s Texas version.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) followed at 24%. No other potential candidate, including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) who addressed the CPAC crowd in his home state Friday, broke 2%. Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) garnered 0% of the attendees’ support.

Trump has all but said he is running again in 2024, stating in a recent New York magazine interview he has already made up his mind, and that his “big decision” is when to announce.

Morris added that Trump brings “energy and fire” to the party. “I think that it’s absolutely pivotal in this election,” he said.
