The prosecution in the murder trial of former South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh is expected to call rebuttal witnesses Tuesday.

Murdaugh is being charged with murdering his wife, Margaret, and son, Paul, at the family’s hunting estate in June 2021. The prosecution alleges he committed the murder to hide his financial troubles. The trial is in its sixth week.

Murdaugh took to the stand on Thursday and Friday in his defense, admitting to financial wrongdoing at his law firm and lying to police the night of the murders but maintaining that he did not kill his family members.

On Monday, the defense called a forensic pathologist to challenge the state’s argument regarding the specifics of the shooting that killed Murdaugh’s wife and son. The defense called blood spatter expert Tim Palmbach to the stand Monday, who argued that the evidence suggests there were two shooters involved in the crime.
