The former president is scheduled to return to Mar-a-Lago after his court appearance. He is expected to give a speech at the resort Tuesday night. Trump is the first U.S. president to be indicted.

The case is being overseen by state Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan, who presided over a trial of the Trump Organization and former Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg. The defendants in that case were found guilty of 17 counts of tax fraud and falsifying business records.
