President Joe Biden is holding a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday, as Zelensky traveled to Washington, D.C., to advocate for more military and humanitarian assistance amid his country’s war with Russia.

The meeting with the White House is meant to “underscore the United States’ unshakeable commitment to supporting the people of Ukraine as they defend themselves against Russia’s brutal invasion,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement on Sunday.

Zelensky also appealed to both chambers of Congress on Tuesday for assistance, but House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has remained firm that the lower chamber would not grant additional aid to the country until a border security deal is reached.

“What the Biden administration seems to be asking for is billions of additional dollars with no appropriate oversight, no clear strategy to win, and none of the answers that I think the American people are owed,” Johnson told reporters.
