DONALD TRUMP INDICTED: THREE TAKEAWAYS FROM FORMER PRESIDENT’S THIRD INDICTMENT

He has been charged with four counts by special counsel Jack Smith for his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election and the actions that led to the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. Trump is expected to plead not guilty.

The former president has denied any wrongdoing, calling the indictment a “witch hunt” and Smith a “deranged” prosecutor.

Smith’s second investigation into Trump’s handling of classified documents resulted in an indictment in June. In Manhattan, the district attorney’s office filed criminal charges against the former president that were related to hush money payments made during the 2016 campaign.

Trump is set to arrive in court at 4 p.m. Eastern time.
