The 2023 United Nations General Assembly will begin its first debate at the New York headquarters on Tuesday, centering on “rebuilding trust” and “reigniting global solidarity.”
The U.N. General Assembly will meet until Sept. 29. U.N. President Dennis Francis of Trinidad and Tobago will preside over the 78th session. The theme of the General Assembly is “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its sustainable development goals towards peace, prosperity, progress, and sustainability for all.”

The U.N. held a Sustainable Development Goals summit on Monday. Members will attend a Global Finance Summit on Wednesday and three high-level meetings on health throughout the week.
The U.N. Security Council is also holding a meeting on Wednesday regarding the war in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will make an in-person appearance — his first visit to the U.N. since the war started.
U.S. President Joe Biden will be in attendance. Several other top world leaders, such as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, will attend as well.

Leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, United Arab Emirates President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin will be absent from assembly proceedings.
The first day of the United Nations General Assembly will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
