The roughly seven-minute video mashup, which was mixed with footage of violent rioters storming the Capitol, showed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) scrambling behind the scenes as the riot unfolded.

JAN. 6 SELECT COMMITTEE EXPECTED TO VOTE TO SUBPOENA TRUMP: REPORT

“We have got to finish these proceedings or else they will have a complete victory,” Pelosi is heard telling someone on the phone.

A staffer is later seen informing her that Schumer, who was minority leader at the time, had been moved to a secure location. Eventually, the two meet up and are seen fielding calls with officials, hoping for a stronger law enforcement response to the riot.

Pelosi was also shown watching CNN coverage of the rioters. She voiced shock and dismay as rioters broke windows and ransacked the Capitol in the footage played by CNN.

At one point, Schumer fumed and said the president needed to make a statement. Pelosi later told Schumer that she had a call with Vice President Mike Pence and Schumer replied that he talked to Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, who was then a U.S. senator.

The video was presented by Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) during his opening statement. Raskin later played a previously released video of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) criticizing former President Donald Trump’s handling of the Jan. 6 riot.

The panel later voted to subpoena Trump for testimony and documents. The hearing, which Chairman Bennie Thompson said was a formal committee business meeting that would allow a panel vote, could be the committee’s last before the end of the year. The committee is expected to release a final report on its investigation, but has not yet laid out a timeline.
