With Hollywood actors announcing that they will be joining the Writers Guild of America on strike, a number of major movies are set to experience severe delays and production issues.
Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, executive director of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Radio and Television Artists, announced on Thursday that Hollywood’s actors would be going on strike, bringing the largest entertainment industry on Earth to a screeching halt. Though it’s unclear how long the actors intend to strike, the aftereffects will likely be felt for some time.

Here are some of the most anticipated movies that are set to be affected by the strike:
Deadpool 3
One of the first movies where it was made immediately known that production would be affected, Deadpool 3 is the next entry into the adult-oriented action-comedy Marvel series, starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular character. The movie was originally slated to release May 3, 2024, a date that will now likely be pushed back.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
The newest entry into the MonsterVerse, the new Godzilla/King Kong movie will presumably see the two reunited to fight yet another world-endangering foe. The studio behind the film released a teaser trailer a few months ago and had given the release date of March 2024.
Despite the main attraction consisting of CGI monsters, actors are still needed to craft the story and plot, meaning the film will likely be pushed back considerably.
Avatars 3, 4, etc.
James Cameron has let it be known that he plans to do several more Avatar movies, especially after the last two were some of the highest-grossing movies ever. Avatar 3 was set to come out in December 2025, already a long way away. The strike will push the date back even further, meaning fans will have to wait roughly three more years before returning to Pandora.
Captain America: Brave New World
The next entry into the Captain America series was originally set to come out in July 2024, with extra hype over the joining of Harrison Ford. Few details about the plot or state of production have been made public, but the release is bound to be pushed back further.
Gladiator sequel
The long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott’s Oscar-winning Gladiator has finally been confirmed. Though scant details about the plot have been revealed, a release date of Nov. 22, 2024, has been given, according to Collider.
Those who have been in anticipation for 23 years will have to hold out a bit longer, as the strike is almost guaranteed to push the release date back even further.
Kung Fu Panda 4
The hit animated series of movies, which features Jack Black as the voice of Po, a panda-turned-kung fu master, was slated to release its next film in the spring of 2024. However, the film is currently slated as still being in production, meaning fans will have to wait longer to see it.
Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie
The next movie entry into the Spongebob universe will be a spin-off featuring fan-favorite character Sandy Cheeks as she tries to save Bikini Bottom, traveling to Texas with Spongebob in the process. The film was slated to release sometime in 2024 on Netflix, but fans will now have to wait to see whether she is able to save the underwater town a bit longer.

Minecraft
The movie adaptation of one of the world’s most popular video games has officially been set for April 4, 2025, according to IGN. Little is known about the movie, aside from the joining of star Jason Momoa.
Although development of the project has gone back roughly 10 years, fans will have to wait a few more, as the star of the project is going on strike along with the other cast members.
Garfield
The movie featuring former Vice President Mike Pence’s favorite cartoon cat, starring Chris Pratt as the orange feline, is set to release May 24, 2024. The date was pushed back from the original February 2024 release date, and now looks set to be pushed even further back.
