South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol will be offered a banana split when he dines with President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden during the administration’s second state visit.
The menu, a collaboration involving Jill Biden, White House executive chef Cris Comerford, White House executive pastry chef Susie Morrison, and Korean American celebrity chef Edward Lee, will be served on George W. Bush’s state service china and platinum-colored linens commemorating the 70th anniversary of the U.S.-South Korea alliance.

Broadway stars Norm Lewis, Lea Salonga, and Jessica Vosk will entertain the guests, according to the White House.
“Elements of the design and decor were inspired by the Taegeuk, the symbol in the center of the Republic of Korea flag, which represents balance, harmony, and peace,” the White House said. “The dining room background design is inspired by Dancheong, the Korean traditional coloring in architecture, typically found on ancient temples throughout the Republic of Korea.”
“On chair covers, designs evoking traditional sumukhwa — Korean ink brush painting — will feature peonies, representing prosperity and joy, and bamboo elements, representing longevity and strength,” an official added. “On the day of the State Dinner and along the East Wing entrance, scenic landscape designs will bring forth the harmony of American and Korean cultures, featuring some of the national symbols of the United States including the American Bison, the American Bald Eagle, roses, stars, and will include the Korean magpie and Korean tiger, that hold an important meaning within Korean culture.”
