Former President Bill Clinton is set to release a new memoir on the more than 20 years since he was in office.
In a statement, Clinton described Citizen: My Life After the White House as “the story of my 23-plus years since leaving the White House, told largely through the stories of other people who changed my life as I tried to help change theirs, of those who supported me, including those I loved and lost, and of the mistakes I made along the way.”
The book comes three years after FX released its series “Impeachment,” which told the story of Monica Lewinsky, the White House aide who had an affair with the president that led to Clinton’s impeachment. Lewinsky was involved in the production of each episode, which averaged 1.3 million viewers in the first eight episodes.
“My last 23 years have been fascinating, filled with family life and foundation work, with heroes and heartbreak,” Clinton wrote on X. “In CITIZEN I tell stories of my life and work after the White House and the people who inspire me to keep going every day.”
The book is anticipated to cover the Capitol riot of Jan. 6, 2021, and his wife and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s loss in the 2016 election, among other historical events. Clinton expressed his belief that “a life in public service can be deeply rewarding if you accept that in the constant ebb and flow of history, there are no permanent victories or defeats.”
Both Hillary Clinton and their daughter Chelsea Clinton have been busy with their production company, HiddenLight Productions. In Her Hands was the first documentary from the two and is available on Netflix after a Toronto International Film Festival premiere. It won the Emmy last year at the News and Documentary Emmy Awards, with each Clinton receiving her own statuette.
