White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre invited a superfan of hers to visit the briefing room live on television.

Jean-Pierre appeared on the Kelly Clarkson Show to surprise a Haitian 16-year-old named Danie who had said she looks up to the press secretary. The two share the same Haitian background and grew up in the same area.

Before meeting Danie, Jean-Pierre told Clarkson that when she was a young girl, after recently moving to the United States from Haiti, she and her family visited the White House. Jean-Pierre explained that together they took a family photo outside of the presidential residence and that she keeps the photo in her wallet.

“It is just a reminder of like how dreams can come true, a reminder of this country that we live in and to dream big,” Jean-Pierre said. “I would’ve never thought that this little young person here would be working in the White House, two White Houses, and now making history in this role. I would’ve never thought — I would never thought that.”

Then during a separate interview with Clarkson, Danie was surprised by Jean-Pierre joining her onstage. The two hugged, and the press secretary invited her to visit Washington, D.C., and get a tour of the White House.

“We’re going to see the press briefing room, and you’ll sit in on one of my daily press briefings,” Jean-Pierre told the teenage girl. “And we’ll get you to ask me a question. You can feel what it’s like to be a journalist in the room.”

Jean-Pierre has been President Joe Biden’s press secretary since May 2022, after serving as former press secretary Jen Psaki’s deputy secretary. She first worked in the White House in a senior communication role for then-Vice President Biden during the Obama administration.
